Hotel Indigo Review | Bath, UK

It’s been nearly three weeks since my husband, Jack and I left Atlanta, Ga for a trip to England. For those of you who don’t know, Jack and I met in high school after he moved from the UK because of his dad’s job. We dated for 8 years and were married on June 4th, 2021. During that time, he never made it back to his hometown. So, after almost ten years in the states, we thought that it was due time for a trip back to his childhood home.

For Jack, this trip was a long-awaited return. For me— a novel adventure and a deeper understanding of my husband’s roots.

We were so fortunate to partner with Hotel Indigo Bath for a one-night stay and dinner at The Elder. What better way to celebrate a return nearly a decade in the making and a brand new adventure for the both of us?

Just a short walk from the Bath train station lies the gorgeous Hotel Indigo Bath which is situated in an 18th-century Georgian building. Don’t let the neutral Bath stone fool you— as soon as you walk into the lobby, you’re instantly hit with a wave of color, pattern, and design that reminded me of falling down the rabbit hole and into Wonderland.

Hotel Indigo is a 4-star boutique hotel that has certainly paid tribute to Bath’s historic charm while also adding a layer of fun, modern and whimsical design. What makes this hotel unique is that each floor is a completely different theme. We were dealt— LITERALLY— a lucky hand with our “romance and mischief” room. A set of three playing cards signified our room number. Butterflies and spray paint littered the room in color and charm.

The other room themes are as follows:

  • Romance and Mischief Rooms (ours)

  • Architectural Beauty Rooms

  • Literary Highway Rooms

  • Garden Rooms

After being walked to our room, we settled in almost instantly with a cup of earl gray— and YES, I did put on the bathrobe to capture the moment. And what a main character moment it was.

Some of our favorite room amenities:

  • Hypnos beds with luxury Egyptian cotton linen

  • a spa-inspired bathroom

  • a Nespresso coffee machine

  • high-speed Wi-Fi

  • a 40” flat-screen TV

The hotel was kind enough to call and make sure we were settled in. After having a laugh creating some content, we went out to explore Bath for a few hours before our reservation at The Elder. When we arrived back in our room to freshen up before dinner, we found a sweet welcome note and a box of chocolates on the bed.

Part of the hotel, The Elder restaurant and bar are independently run and owned by restaurateur Mike Robinson with Gavin Edney as Executive Chef. It’s a contemporary British restaurant that serves ethical and sustainable meals. I have to say the atmosphere and food were exquisite— if you’re interested in a visit, be sure to book a reservation here (especially if it’s a Wednesday-Sunday).

We started with the house wine, burrata, and garlic soup. Jack had the roasted pave and slow-cooked shoulder of fallow deer and I opted for the asparagus agnolotti. For dessert, I enjoyed the mango souffle while Jack had coffee gelato and an assortment of other chocolaty treats.

The only wish I had at the end of our stay was that it could have been longer. The hotel was kind enough to include complimentary breakfast (which we could hardly indulge in after stuffing ourselves at dinner the previous night). If the over-generous hospitality and staff aren’t reason enough to stay, the decor and atmosphere are— and the food is truly the cherry on top.

Thank you, Hotel Indigo, for a lovely stay. I highly recommend this hotel to everyone who comes across this post— and hope to return for another stay very soon.
